No rest if you’re wanting to be the best…

So it’s Monday morning (12:48 am to be exact) and I’ve realised how close I actually am to graduating and how little work I’ve produced that I’m actually proud of.

I figured it’s time to change that and I’ve now been hit with a wave of motivation. So to go through my priorities. I need to get my summer project for University done, and why not go through the process with you guys, my lovely followers.

Okay so the brief:
‘You are required to make an alphabet. Twenty six characters and ten numerals, plus punctuation marks. Upper case or lower case (or even both), it’s up to you.

We want you to base your typeface on one of the following: -
Nature - I.E. Something natural
A place or location - I.E. Town/city/train station/park etc
An occupation - I.E. Butcher/Builder/Postman etc
A hobby or pass time - I.E. Stamp collecting/gardening/fishing etc
An object(s)
An occasion or event - I.E Wedding/sports day/party etc’

I guess the first thing I’m going to have to do is narrow that down somewhat onto what I want to base my typeface on. So far, I think the stamp collecting could be an interesting one and also I have a couple of objects in mind that might also work that fit in with the theme ‘party’ so later on today, I’ll be heading into town and having a look at what things I might be able to acquire.

I guess in the meantime, I’m best having a look at different experimental typefaces, which I’ve already started doing and come across a couple of really nice looking things:

Unfortunately I’ve not been able to trace back both images to their original creators (although I think the phone one does say haha). So credit to both the designers that did these. I do really like both.

Anyway, I guess that will do for this update and I’ll most likely have another in several hours haha.

Update:

So I’ve been applying for work placements at a few different agencies in Preston, there is a couple I really hope get back to me and say yes as I’m a really big fan of their work.

In the mean time, or rather from tomorrow I’m going to start my University project. I figured it might be a good time to try and make this blog a bit more interesting so I’m hoping to post a bit of a work flow of some sort and also getting my followers a bit more involved. Provided I can haha.

So yeh, short little update but I should be having a fair few different one’s coming over the weekend.

hrrrthrrr:

This Tree of Life poster is hard to resist. Stand back and it looks like a cool relief print of a tree, but once you get up close, the rings are composed of hundreds of tiny animals. How cool!

I figured I’ll start trying to promote my facebook page a little bit.
